Workshop description: According to Greek mystic Pythagoras, “The highest goal of music is to connect one’s soul to their divine nature.” More than mere entertainment, music is a powerful agent for transformation, both personal and collective; song can call us into opening, attune our hearts to a shared rhythm, and stir us to deepen our connection with self, other, and the divine.

In the Celtic Bardic tradition, music is understood to be a divine gift, intrinsically linked with community-based rituals and with individual spiritual practice. Music belongs to and arises from each of us, regardless of our training—we all carry soul-songs. This participatory workshop will consist largely of shared music and shared contemplative silence, including the opportunity to experience audio divina, deep listening as a form of prayer, and to optionally join in chanting and song, exploring the power of breath and voice to awaken the soul and foster deep connection.

A simple & short ecumenical sunrise worship service celebrating Easter. A lovely event - it's a highlight of my year and well worth getting up early for. All are very welcome (dress warm).

We will gather at the fire pit which is between the lodge & the lake (located near the children play area).

The Rector of this Episcopal church has asked me to come and share music to help folks get ready for the 4 journey from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. I expect to play some piano, share many chants, a psalm or two and some stories from Holy weeks I took part of while I lived in the abbey on Iona. All are welcome to this hour long event. Kanuga kicks of the 2023 Music in the Pines series this spring with a group described by The Sacramento Bee as, “a pastiche of world, jazz and classical music.” The Kanuga performance will feature Free Planet Radio with percussionist River Guerguerian and Chris Rosser, a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, composer and producer.
